キュレイターのエルフィ・カール、アーティストのポール・ベネエ、C.A.P.が共同で、スパルマンの日本初ワークショップを開催します。マルセル・スパルマン（Marcel Sparmann）は、パフォーマンスアートやインスタレーションを行うドイツのビジュアルアーティストです。今回は記憶と痕跡、喪失について、空間や身体などの様々なアイデアにアプローチを試み、「壊れやすさ」を探求する集団的なパフォーマンスの実験を行います。

マルセル・スパルマン／Marcel Sparmann
パフォーマンスアート、舞台、ダンス、パブリックアートやインスタレーションを行うドイツのビジュアルアーティスト。ドイツとスコットランドで演劇、パフォーマンスアート、環境芸術を学び、現在はアーティスト・研究者として国際的に活躍し、さらにヨーロッパ全土、南北アメリカ大陸、中国などで演劇教授法、実験演劇、パフォーマンスなどのレクチャーを行っています。
近年はドイツの大学で客員教授を務め、国際的な組織でもレクチャーを行っています。ゲーテインスティトュートの支援で、ベニスパフォーマンスアート週間、ベルリン国際パフォーマンスアート週間、西安ライブアートフェスティバル、ヒューストンパフォーマンスアートビエンナーレ、などなど多くのパフォーマンスアートプログラムに参加しています。

About the Artist:
Marcel Sparmann is a German visual artist, working in performance art, theatre, dance, public art and installation. After studying Theatre, Performance Art and Environmental Art in Germany and Scotland, Sparmann now works internationally, both as artist and researcher in Residence. Furthermore, he has presented as a guest lecturer for Performance and experimental theatre including theatre pedagogy all over Europe, North and South America and China.
Currently holding guest teaching positions at several German universities, Sparmann lectured at international institutions. Supported by Goethe Institute, he participated in renowned Performance Art festivals and Biennials, such as the Venice Performing Arts Week, Berlin International Performance Art Weekend, Xi’an Live Art Festival, the Houston Performance Art Biennale as well as many others.
Curator Elfi Carle and Artist Paul Venet in collaboration with CAP Studio Y3 are happy to present Marcel Sparmann’s first workshop in Japan.
About the Workshop:
The workshop follows the concept of ‘fragility’, dealing with various ideas of appearing and disappearing, traces and memories. The group will experiment with creating intense and implicit condensed situations, intimate spaces, temporary artefacts and the body as a dynamic reference point in flux.
Within a temporary community, the workshop aims to explore the profound understanding of compassion and kindness, even the aspect of bravery in the sense of unfolding a personal vulnerability. In considering space as the emotional and ritualistic environment, Sparmann, with the participants, wants to negotiate between the collective and common memories and their representations through performance.
This workshop is dedicated to fragility within the framework of memory. ‘Fractured Memories’ is a performative multimedia collective experiment. Surrounded by visuals and their narratives, we think, speak and relate through images, identifying ourselves by codes and signals and navigate them in social or cultural landscapes. In this way, memory is strongly intertwined with our primal sense, the sight. The workshop is a laboratory for performative images and their traces, open to any form of creative articulation. The aim is to invent and explore a visual and action based language and its use in an urban environment.
