すぐそれとわかるようなものもあるかもしれないけれど、わたしの作品は全て言語に関連しています。言語は、たいてい図像、オブジェあるいはアーティストブックに変換されます。この方法は、論理的でも双方向的でもなく、直感や試行錯誤によって生まれる体験的なプロセスに基づいています。ここからわたしは純粋に視覚的な質問を制作します。わたしの視覚的な質問に、鑑賞者は自由に手を加え、反応したりクエスチョンマークを加えたりして、、、答えを見つけます。多分。日本滞在中は、日本語に挑戦してみようと思っています。
All my works are related to language, although sometimes this may not be immediately obvious. Language is translated mostly into image, objects or artist books. This method is neither logical nor reversible. It is based on experimental processes that are triggered by intuition, trial and error.
The results represent questions for me – in purely visual terms. The viewer is free to process my visual questions: add reflections and question marks – and find answers, perhaps.
During my stay in Japan I will try to approach the Japanese language.

カトリン・フォン・マルツァーン
1964年、旧東独のロストクで生まれ、現在ベルリン在住の美術家。2009年よりライプツィヒの美術アカデミーで、2014年からブレーメン芸術大学で教授を務める。1992年よりドイツ、スカンジナビア、南アフリカ、アジア、オーストラリアなど世界各地で作品を発表し、ドイツ、スウェーデン、南アフリカの学校で教えている。さまざまなカタログや本をプロデュースし、出版している。

Katrin von Maltzahn
Born 1964 in Rostock, in the former GDR, Katrin von Maltzahn is a visual artist based in Berlin. Since 2009 she works as Professor for Fine Art, first at the Academy for Visual Arts in Leipzig and since 2014 at the University of the Arts in Bremen. Since 1992 she has exhibited widely – in Germany, Scandinavia, South Africa, Asia and Australia and taught at art schools in Germany, Sweden and South Africa. She has produced and published a variety of catalogs and books.
